Cautious, But Never Passive

Beware of falling into the trap of becoming passive.

Many players tend to freeze when they hear or see enemy movement, trying to determine the enemy’s location and movements, stopping to avoid making noise themselves.

This can be the right behaviour if the enemy hasn’t noticed you, and may allow you to surprise them with an ambush.

However, it's better to assume there is always the possibility that, as you heard or saw them, they might have already heard or seen you before you stopped moving.

Experienced players can easily make you believe they haven’t noticed you, only to set up an ambush or target you while you think they’ve moved on.

Staying still gives them the advantage, letting them take the initiative. They can surround and flank you, create distractions with other sounds like gunfire or grenade explosions, effectively trapping you and making you an easy prey.

It’s better to move and keep the enemy uncertain of your exact position rather than remaining in a spot where they’ve already pinpointed you, giving them the initiative.

In any case, never be passive. If you want to set an ambush, do it. But never freeze in a corner waiting for a sound. Make sure to always have a plan (and possibly also a plan B in case things go south).
