EFT Tutorial and Guide
THE TARKOV CENTRAL

Map Knowledge
One of the fundamental tools for success in Escape from Tarkov is map knowledge.
Knowing where you are and being able to reach the extraction points is just the first step in a long journey that will take a lot of time (and perhaps never truly end) to learn the maps like the back of your hand.
The maps in EFT are incredibly detailed and meticulously designed to balance player movements and tactics. As you become more familiar with the game and start noticing more details, you'll realize, for example, that certain trees are positioned to limit the view of potential snipers, preventing them from gaining too much of an advantage. Some rocks provide cover, allowing safe movement across an area, but still leaving exposed spots where you can be hit. Floors are covered with different materials (for instance, broken glass, wooden planks, or metal surfaces that produce distinctive, louder sounds) so that moving carelessly over them will give away your position to enemies.
Moreover, the maps are complex and intricately designed, allowing those with good knowledge to tactically outplay enemies. For example, on an urban map, knowing the buildings and their interior layouts can help you exit one side and re-enter from the opposite side to catch an enemy from behind. Or, by climbing stairs and peeking through a window, you can surprise them from an angle they won’t expect.
All of this—and much more—makes map knowledge vital for surviving and defeating enemies.
Keep it in mind as you explore and play.
